Bringing Design Tonic Home – Delivering this exceptional Residential Interior

BACK TO ALL ARTICLES

Did you know we also deliver out-of-this-world home interiors as well as inspiring commercial spaces?

No, neither did we - or not until earlier this year anyway, when one of our much-loved clients twisted our collective arms and persuaded us to venture into the world of residential interiors with a build brief they needed delivering to an exceptional standard.

Now we’re just asking ourselves why we’ve not done it before…

Join us as we take you on the grand tour of this really rather special (if we do say so ourselves :) North Leeds home, now featuring all the hallmarks of a Design Tonic build.

A special space in a special place

Roundhay is one of those affluent North Leeds spots with enduring appeal.

Close to the lush greenery and glittering lakes of the 700-acre park, good schools rub shoulders with exclusive shops, great restaurants and buzzing bars, and lovers of the good life find themselves very happy indeed.

Here, our client’s own home is a grand Victorian property nestled in large, leafy gardens and tucked away in a quiet, private spot.

To the ground floor, a new extension offers fabulous green views of the garden beyond, while upstairs (and especially from the third floor - keep reading), big windows flood the rooms with light, some with panoramic views over this gorgeous, verdant suburb.

As part of a comprehensive remodelling project, our client asked us to help make their interior plans a reality, stamping lots of beautifully-crafted personality on this stunning home.

And our expert team stepped up to the mark in true Design Tonic style, doing what we do best to deliver a build brief that covers joinery, electrical works, decoration and flooring.

Here’s the finished result…

Outside our comfort zone, and into the client’s

If there’s one thing we love, it’s a challenge.

And while a residential space might be a different ask than our normal commercial projects, the essentials are still the same.

The client wanted the ultimate in contemporary comfort - a unique space filled with luxe finishes, plush materials and the precision build quality and detailing that Design Tonic are known for.

Downstairs, the kitchen/living area has been transformed, with beautiful herringbone flooring in a warm hue connecting the two spaces.

In the kitchen, bespoke cabinetry in a lush, sultry black matches the fabulous Crittal-style windows, with brass handles providing lustre and fluted tiling for texture.

A fabulous central island is cloaked in a monochrome marble that runs across the top and sides, while drawers in the same warm timber as the flooring are underset with integrated lighting for evening drama.

And not forgetting that task lighting! Above the island’s inset hob, we love these three minimal pendants which are so simple, yet so stylish and set the room off to perfection.

The result is a modern living space, fitted with millimetre-perfect precision and with every element designed for comfort - the perfect spot for our homeowners to hang out with family and friends in supreme style.

Bespoke joinery for the “wow”

There’s nothing like custom-crafted pieces for creating a real one-of-a-kind “wow” factor, and here the talented Design Tonic team have done themselves very proud indeed.

As you move through the house, you’ll find pieces of tailor-made cabinetry everywhere, from the inset display shelving of the dining area to the brilliant playspace in the Den (psst… there’s ingenious storage hidden in those stairs); stunning inbuilt wardrobes to the incredible loft-bed-with-slide that makes for one child’s bedroom of dreams.

One of our favourite bespoke transformations is the hallway, where an ornate staircase is finished in black for a contemporary twist on the traditional - the perfect nod to the home’s original period style, but bringing it into the modern day with poise.

Flow and finishes

With sleek, high end black finishes and ironmongery used throughout, it was key to introduce lots of softness to make this home feel homely - as well as creating a flow that could be maintained throughout.

The answer lies in finishes and fabrics.

For flow, a consistent, neutral scheme runs through the house, with mellow timbers and cosy carpets working to soften.

Pops of colour mark each room’s distinctive style…

Like in the stunning bedroom above, where playful pink paintwork merges into a custom-built bench (with smart storage below, of course)...

Or the homeowner’s beautiful dressing room, where a calm, minimal, monochrome scheme is the pinnacle of stylish luxury.

And for fabrics?

Opulent velvets and on-trend bouclés combine for a lush, tactile feel that makes every space feel plush and luxurious.

Bathroom Bliss

If, like us, one of your favourite places to kick back is in the bathroom, then we hope you’ll join us in our general appreciation (aka envy) of these four sumptuous spaces.

Matching the happy hue of its sister bedroom, the pretty pink-toned bathroom is the ultimate in grown-up girly indulgence, complete with lustred, zellige-style tiles in an unusual hexagonal shape, black fittings and faux foliage for a hint of biophilia.

A more masculine feel is delivered by the blue shades of the second en-suite, with its shaded flooring and cheeky slogan sure to bring a smile to showering.

The serene scheme of the master bedroom is continued through to the master en-suite, with textured tiling and his and hers sinks for luxurious convenience in the mornings.

And meanwhile, in the main bath, monochrome rules.

White ceramics are dotted with tiny black feature tiles for added drama, and inset shelving adds good-looking storage space to keep shampoos handy and display trinkets and greenery.

Panoramic Pentagons

We’ll end this whistle-stop tour with one of our absolute favourite touches.

Head with us to the third floor, step gently down into this gorgeous guest bedroom and admire the sweeping panoramic views through the tremendous pentagonal window.

Flooded with natural light from above and across, this room is the perfect finishing touch to this fabulous home - where every build element has been carefully crafted and fitted with millimetre-perfect precision to deliver form, function and contemporary comfort by the handful.
