Refresh, Refurb, Reboot. How an office refurbishment can transform your workspace without breaking the bank

BACK TO ALL ARTICLES

Much as we love the blank slate offered by a new, empty office, not every client needs our full design, build and fit out service.

In fact, lots of our lovely clients come to us to transform their existing spaces with a  simple yet impactful office refurbishment, and you know what?

Sometimes these are the projects we love the most.

There’s something hugely satisfying about breathing new life into a space, imagining how the people who spend much of their lives there could work smarter, better and happier - and then making it a reality.

We think it’s the looks on their faces when they see their reimagined workspace and realise what time in the office can really be like.

Better yet, refurbishing your office space is perfect for more conservative budgets.

Here’s how you can transform your workplace without breaking the bank - and why you should.

Reinvention vs Revolution

Tired interiors can have a negative effect on your workforce.

There’s only so much shabby paintwork, cramped desk space and 90s furniture an employee can stand before it saps energy and motivation.

And most older offices give zero nods to workplace wellbeing or resimercial elements like natural materials, lush planting, breakout spaces and visual stimulation.

Worse, an office in dire need of TLC gives off the same negative vibes to people outside your organisation, whether that’s the amazing hire you’re trying to woo - or your clients.

Similarly, your otherwise fantastic interior won’t shine if your expanding business is starting to outgrow the layout.

If quick growth sees you struggling for room, a reconfiguration and reinvention will take  full advantage of what your office offers, banishing mess and clutter and giving your staff the spaces and places they need to do their best work.

Or perhaps you’ve undergone a rebrand, and your old office doesn’t chime with your new  direction?

Whichever reason it may be, here there’s no need to go all out and lavish budget on a  comprehensive overhaul.

You just need some clever and creative design nouse to help you refresh your space  (hello :)

Maximum Impact, Minimal Outlay

If your building or office space is in good structural condition, then a simple but impactful  refresh will make an immediate difference to your workplace.

More cost-effective than a complete redesign - and certainly less cost and hassle than moving office - an office refurbishment can be turned around quickly and with minimal disruption to you and your staff.

A recent project we completed for Tenet Financial Services delivered on all these fronts.

Their fresh and forward-thinking approach to a stuffy sector was definitely not matched by their office home, so we stepped in to rethink the space, creating a welcoming, open and contemporary workplace with a relaxed but professional feel.

A monochrome palette increases the sense of spaciousness and is offset by a strong  graphic package that complements Tenet’s branding perfectly.

We chose desks which combine strong forms with peak comfort - while velvets, soft in feel and colour, add a tactile element that effortlessly deflects any starkness.

A Catalyst for Change

Whether triggered by simple necessity or a change or rebrand in your business, an office  refurbishment offers the perfect chance to reevaluate - not just your surroundings but also:

  • Your company’s personality and direction
  • The wellbeing of your workforce
  • The sustainability of your office
  • The technology you use

The pandemic has brought a fresh perspective and a new way of working, as well as  “new normal" interiors trends, design-led screening options and safer materials

What’s become abundantly clear is that people returning to work are seeking something different.

The new balance is between business needs and employee comfort, with a little sustainability thrown in for good measure.

Savills atest Office FiT report pinpointed acoustic comfort as being of primary importance to employees now used to working from the relative quiet of their homes, and also highlighted the growing importance of collaborative configurations and facilitating virtual communications for remote teams.

The catalysts for office change are many and varied right now, making it the perfect time  to transform your workspace.
